Is ZZ Plant Toxic to Dogs?
Caution⚠️ Risky — depends on amount & dog
Mildly toxic — the ZZ plant's oxalates cause drooling and stomach upset if chewed, but serious cases are rare.
The ZZ plant carries the same calcium oxalate irritants as its aroid cousins, just typically in milder presentations. Chewing produces mouth irritation, drooling, and sometimes vomiting; skin contact with sap can even irritate paws or lips. Wash your hands after pruning and keep it on a shelf — that's usually protection enough.
