Is Snake Plant Toxic to Dogs?
Caution⚠️ Risky — depends on amount & dog
Mildly toxic — a chewed snake plant leaf typically causes drooling, nausea, and diarrhea, but serious poisoning is rare.
The nearly indestructible snake plant contains saponins that irritate the gut, so curious chewers end up drooling and vomiting — unpleasant, self-limiting, and rarely dangerous. Its bitter taste usually stops dogs after a bite or two. Move it out of reach rather than out of the house, and expect symptoms to resolve within a day.
What makes it dangerous: Saponins

What to do right now
- Remove plant material from the mouth; offer water

- Call your vet if vomiting persists beyond 24h or your dog is small and ate a lot
