Can Dogs Eat Shrimp?
Caution⚠️ Risky — depends on amount & dog
Cooked, peeled shrimp is safe in small amounts — raw shrimp risks bacteria, and shells/tails are choking hazards.
Plain cooked shrimp is a low-calorie protein treat most dogs tolerate well. Serve it peeled and plain: shells and tails don't digest and can lodge in the throat, raw shrimp can carry vibrio and other pathogens, and restaurant preparations (garlic butter, fried coatings) add the usual problem ingredients.
Symptoms to watch for
- Gagging on shells/tails
- GI upset from rich preparations
What to do right now
- Plain cooked + peeled: fine in moderation
- Raw shrimp: monitor for vomiting/diarrhea over 24–48h
