Can Dogs Eat Rice?

Safe

✅ Generally safe for dogs

Yes — plain cooked rice is safe and is literally the classic upset-stomach meal for dogs (with boiled chicken).

Plain white rice is gentle, binding, and easy to digest — the reason 'chicken and rice' is the universal vet-suggested bland diet for short-term GI upset. Brown rice is fine too but slightly harder to digest. Keep it unseasoned: fried rice, butter, and anything cooked with onion or garlic disqualifies the batch.

How to serve it safely

Bland-diet ratio: roughly 2 parts cooked white rice to 1 part plain boiled chicken, small frequent meals.

If you're sharing food with your dog

Treats and table food should stay under about 10% of daily calories. These help keep sharing a habit that doesn't quietly become a weight problem.
