Will It Poison?

Can Dogs Eat Bananas?

Safe

✅ Generally safe for dogs

Yes — bananas are safe for dogs in small amounts. High sugar means treat-sized portions, and skip the peel.

Bananas are a healthy occasional treat: potassium, vitamin B6, and fiber with no toxic compounds. Their sugar content is the main limiter — a few slices, not a whole banana, especially for small or diabetic dogs. Peels aren't toxic but are hard to digest and can cause vomiting or, in smaller dogs, blockage if swallowed in large pieces.

How to serve it safely

A few slices for a medium dog. Mashed banana works great stuffed in a lick toy.

If you're sharing food with your dog

Treats and table food should stay under about 10% of daily calories. These help keep sharing a habit that doesn't quietly become a weight problem.

Slow Feeder Dog Bowl

A maze-bottom bowl stretches a 30-second inhale into several minutes, which helps with gulping, bloating and bored begging.
